Winters rob our skin of moisture and cause painful fine lines. Even smiling becomes difficult if proper care is not taken. In the busy lifestyle, people resort to harsh chemical treatments which in the long run only ruin the skin further.
Here are few easy things to be done to ensure a healthy skin during winters:
1. Moisturise
This is the key practice for having a good skin. Especially just after your hot sauna bath, the skin loses all its moisture. A good organic body lotion will work best. A very effective home remedy is using lemon, rose water and glycerine in the ratio 1:2:1 by volume. This solution can be stored for a month and can be used as an overnight repairing system. It reduces dark spots, lightens the complexion and moisturises. The rose water is an excellent source of hydration. It can also be used as a refreshing spray which can be applied under makeup. It does not interfere with the cosmetics.
2. Eat the right diet
Winter is the time when the body needs to fight a lot of infections as well as a major portion of the energy goes into heat production. Eating right is very important. Fruits such as water chestnut and oranges “the seasonal fruits” are very good for the skin. The vitamin C content of oranges helps boost immunity too.
Dry fruits should be consumed ranging from cashew nuts, apricots, walnuts, almonds and pistachio. The essential oils present in them add a natural glow to the skin. Ground nuts also make the heel crack repair and are good for the blood circulation too.
A lot of leafy vegetables are available like spinach and radish leaves. They are rich in iron which is needed for blood formation. A good blood circulation is the essential part of a healthy lifestyle.
Carrots, cherries, beetroots, peaches, plums and gooseberry should be eaten a lot. A gooseberry has enough vitamin C for the entire day's demand. Vitamin A and iron content of carrots and beetroots give you the pink blush.
3. Massage
Its difficult to apply oil on your skin during summers. But winters is the time to give your skin a royal massage every once a while on alternate days. Castor oil, olive oil, coconut oil or even a scoop of butter are ideal candidates for massage serums.
More than the applicant the method of application matters. Try making an eight on either side of your face using your fingers. Don’t be too harsh go gently. Gentle tapping of the forehead and under eye region reduces the stress on the skin of those areas. The most delicate skin is near the eyelids it should never be over rubbed.
4. Avoid using very hot water
Hot water is the villain during winters. It harms the skin most. Ever noticed that after bath white flakes coming off your shank of the leg. Some it may be dead skin but mostly it's the burnt thin film of the skin layer.
Try using lukewarm water and always mix it with cold water. Avoid directly pouring hot water on your delicate skin areas. Never ever wash your face with hot water.
5. Steam exposure
Steam is excellent for opening up the clogged pores of the skin. Dust and pollution set in the skin pores and lead to ageing. It sounds contradicting the previous tip, that had been the case if I was talking about the hot steam vents. Here we are referring to steam that comes out of a bowl of hot water.
Cover your head with a towel and bend over the bowl of hot water for 15-20 mins to get a natural skin spa.
6. Sun basking
Sun basking is not only a pleasure activity it has a huge science playing behind. The vitamin D which is being debated to be more of a hormone requires sunlight for synthesis. A minimum of 20 minutes of uninterrupted sunlight exposure is needed to convert the precursors into vitamin D.
During summer this requirement is met even on the days you rarely get out of the house. However, during winters there is a high rate of fall in the level of vitamin D. It is a hormone which is needed for hormone synthesis. These hormones, in turn, work on skin, immune system, metabolism and sexual activity.
Say goodbye to long parlour sessions and get a beautiful radiant skin using these tips. And remember beauty begins with healthy. The more healthy your skin is the better it’ll look!!!!!
