Uttarakhand Government is leaving no stone unturned for the state's progress. Recently sources have revealed that the Uttarakhand Government has been negotiating the plans for phasing out the metro construction for the state.

The state has been in discussions about the metro construction subject with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). The metro will be en route Haridwar – Rishikesh – Dehradun. (Source PTI)

The first phase of the metro route will be connecting state’s capital to Rishikesh and later it will be extended till Haridwar and link other towns.

Lately, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and State Urban Housing Development Authority (UHDA) amidst the esteemed presence of the Chief Minister Harish Rawat. The agreement was signed by the Chief Administrator UHDA, R Meenakshi Sundaram, and DMRC Director Somdutt Sharma for the sketching of a plan for the metro construction for Haridwar – Rishikesh – Dehradun route.

The state has given a grant of 2.10 crore INR to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for the construction of the Haridwar – Rishikesh – Dehradun metro. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has taken the time slot until January end for the initial blueprint preparation. The further refined reports will be prepared in the early months of coming year, 2017. The time is taken to make the DPR has been estimated at around five months by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

While addressing the media the Chief Administrator said that the metro will later be extended to Haridwar and Kalsi districts.

Eminent authorities like the Secretary of Urban Development D. S Garbyal, UHDA Joint Chief Administrator Banshidhar Tiwari, Jitendra Tyagi, Raj Shekhar and others were also present. Chief Minister Harish Rawat expressed the importance of the metro construction for the progress of Uttarakhand. He told the reporters that the metro service will enable the general public of the state to utilize an easier way to commute between local cities.
