Here are some of the lesser known places  in Uttarakhand far away from the crowds that you can brag about having visited.

1. Harsil

2. Chopta

Chopta is an unspoiled natural destination lying in the lap of nature in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. It lies 36km from Gopeshwar, 254km from Rishikesh and approx 450km from the national capital New Delhi. It is surrounded by dense forest and provides majestic views of snow covered the Himalayas and lush green meadows. It is also known as “mini Switzerland”. It is the starting point of the trek to the famous Tungnath Mandir and Chandrashila summits. 3. Mukteshwar

It is a small town and tourist destination in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand. It sits high in the Kumaon hills at 51 km from Nainital, 72km from Haldwani, and 343km from Delhi. Nearby, there is a place with overhanging cliffs, which is locally known as Chauli-Ki-Jhali that is used for rock climbing and rappelling. 4. Tungnath

3 KM mild trek which begins from Chopta. It is the highest Shiva temple in the world and is one of the ‘panchkedar’ that is located highest in the mountain range of Tungnath in Rudraprayag. As a part of the mystical Garhwal region, Tungnath conjures up the profits of legendary tales and abundant beauty. One can experience the view of several named and unnamed peaks of the Himalayan range from Tungnath.

 

5. Munsyari

Munsyari lies in the foothill of the Panchachuli peaks. It is situated in the easternmost hill district of Uttarakhand. Pithoragarh, bordering Tibet known as the little Kashmir. The region is paradise for nature lovers and adventurous souls. You will have breathtaking views of Himalayan peaks, Nanda Devi, Trishul and Panchchuli from here. Munsyari is the base for the trekkers to Milam, Naimik, Thamari Kund, that is a picturesque natural lake surrounded by paper trees.

 

6. Kausani

Kausani is a hill station situated in Bageshwar District. It is located 52km north of Almora. It is a beautiful hill station famous for its scenic and spectacular 300km wide panoramic view of Himalayan peaks like Trishul, Nanda Devi, and Panchchuli. Kausani is an ideal place for honeymooners. It attracts adventurers and nature lovers from all over the world. This tiny village has lovely panoramic views of distant snow-capped peaks, fresh air, and a relaxed atmosphere.

 

7. Binsar

Binsar

Binsar is located 35km from Almora. Binsar wildlife sanctuary is known for its wide variety of flora and fauna and it also has a museum about the flora and fauna of the region. You can admire the Himalayan peak like Kedarnath Peak, Trisul, Shivling and Nanda Devi. This place is famous for sunset and sunrise views and is a perfect place for birdwatchers.

 

8. Deoriya Tal

Deoriya Taal is located in the Rudraprayag district about a 3km uphill trek from the villages of Mastura and Sarion – the Ukimath-Chopta road in Uttarakhand. It has heavily wooded lush green surroundings with snow-covered mountains. The lake is known for its 300-degree panorama. Mountains like Chaukhamba, Nilkantha, Bandar punch and Kedar range can be viewed from here.

 

9. Kanatal

It is situated at 78km from Dehradun, 38km from Mussoorie and 12km from Chamba. Kanatal is the chilliest offbeat destination near to Dehradun. Kanatal was named after a lake which was there a few years ago. Now it had dived and people named this region to memorize it. It is a hidden jewel in Uttarakhand.

 

10. Chakrata

Chakrata

Chakrata is a fascinating weekend destination in Dehradun – District of Uttarakhand. It is a secluded hill station with the peaceful environment. Earlier it was known as Jaunsar Bawar and the region is mostly populated by Jaunsari tribes of Garhwal. Chakrata is an ideal spot for nature lovers, bird watchers, adventure lovers, and wildlife enthusiasts. It provides picturesque spot away from the crowd and pollution. You can also visit a place close to it called Kalsi, which is most known for the rock edict of the Mauryan King Ashoka, 2nd-century BC.
