In a quiet corner of Dehradun’s Nehru Colony, where dreams often collide with the harsh realities of life, a young man named Avanish Chamoli dared to dream big. On March 25, 2019, he opened the doors to PS Speech and Hearing, an institution born out of both necessity and compassion. Today, it stands as a beacon of hope for those battling hearing loss and developmental challenges, a testament to the power of resilience and vision.

For Avanish, the journey to entrepreneurship was far from conventional. Hailing from a modest background, where his family depended on small-scale farming, the dreams of business ownership felt almost unattainable. He made it possible with sheer grit and determination. “Believing that I could achieve something beyond the ordinary was the hardest part,” he says. “In an environment where neither business nor government jobs were the norm, even the thought of starting something felt like a rebellion.”

That rebellion took root when Avanish realized the gaps in accessibility to hearing and speech therapy services in Uttarakhand. With no one to guide him and limited resources, he took up private jobs to support his aspirations. Every step forward was hard-earned, but with a vision clear in his mind, Avanish laid the foundation of PS Speech and Hearing Sound Centre.

Starting solo with a small setup, he put his heart and soul into building an institution that could cater to the needs of both, children and the elderly, offering services such as hearing tests, newborn hearing screenings, speech therapy, and behavior therapy. His mission was simple but profound: to provide high-quality care tailored to the unique needs of his clients, ensuring that affordability and accessibility were never compromised.

The results speak for themselves. In just four years, PS Speech and Hearing has grown into a trusted name, boasting five branches across Uttarakhand, including Dehradun, Rishikesh, Vikasnagar, and Kotdwar. The institution has also earned the distinction of being Uttarakhand’s first Widex Sound Centre, equipped with cutting-edge hearing aid technology from Denmark. From a one-man show, Avanish now leads a dedicated team of 15 professionals, each committed to changing lives one session at a time.

But like every meaningful journey, Avanish’s path was riddled with challenges. Financial constraints were only part of the struggle; the real battle lay in breaking free from the limitations imposed by his environment. “When your surroundings don’t encourage you to dream, even imagining success becomes a hurdle,” he reflects. Convincing himself that he was capable of achieving his vision took time, faith, and an undying commitment to his cause.

Avanish attributes his success to his deep understanding of the community he serves. “We are locals,” he says, “and we know exactly what our clients need. It’s not just about selling a service; it’s about genuinely helping people.” This ethos forms the backbone of PS Speech and Hearing. The team prides itself on personalized care, recommending only what is necessary and beneficial, rather than pushing products for profit.

It’s this integrity and customer-centric approach that has earned Avanish the trust and respect of his clients. Whether it’s a parent seeking therapy for a child with autism or an elderly individual looking for a hearing solution, PS Speech and Hearing has become synonymous with compassion and excellence.

Looking ahead, Avanish’s vision for the future is as ambitious as it is meaningful. By 2026, he plans to expand the institution to at least 10 branches, focusing on underserved areas in the hill districts of Tehri, Srinagar, and Pauri. “The hill regions lack adequate healthcare facilities, and we want to bridge that gap,” he explains. For him, it’s not just about scaling the business; it’s about ensuring that help reaches those who need it the most.

Avanish’s message for aspiring entrepreneurs is rooted in the values that have guided his journey: vision, faith, and hard work. “If you’re not ready to work 24/7 for your startup, then it’s not your calling,” he says with conviction. “Success is never far when you’re willing to put in the effort and stay true to your purpose.”

But his wisdom extends beyond business. As someone who is deeply invested in the lives of individuals with special needs, Avanish urges society to adopt a more empathetic approach. “There are families out there giving everything they have to integrate their children with special needs into society,” he says. “It’s our moral responsibility to support them in any way that we can.”

He also calls for greater awareness about the opportunities within Uttarakhand’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. “Our state still has limited awareness about entrepreneurship,” he notes. “I encourage young people to connect with organizations that solve real problems and are driven by passion, not just profit.”

PS Speech and Hearing Sound Centre isn’t just a business; it’s a lifeline for many. It’s a place where the unheard find their voice, where progress is measured in smiles and milestones rather than revenue charts. And at its heart is a man who dared to believe, not just in his dream, but in the power of change.

“Helping people with special needs isn’t just my profession,” Avanish concludes. “It’s my purpose. And if, through my work, I can inspire others to see spaces of opportunity where there were none before, then I’ve truly succeeded.”
