Dehradun will soon have low floor buses like Delhi and Manali. They will be electric low floor comfortable buses for the common man of Dehradun. Other regions that will also be accessible using this low floor bus service are Haridwar, Roorkee, Udhamnagar and Nainital. The directions and consecutive bus stops will be announced using a mic in the buses. Senior citizens and physically challenged people will be able to travel easily in these buses without having to climb the stairs.
Government has finalised an Italian roadways company for providing the buses. The company marketers gave a presentation to the chief minister on Wednesday. These buses will run on electricity and can travel up to 150km after charging. The chief minister has instructed the authorities to immediately start the procedures for the introduction of low floor bus service.
With the increasing pollution in the country, these electric buses will prevent Dehradun from being a contributor. Roadways is short of the number of buses needed to accommodate the entire passengers. The comfortable new buses will be a boon to the transportation in Dehradun.
The buses will travel 20-30 km distance inside the city. The roadways buses are uncomfortable and create a lot of pollution. They have worn out parts and thus are not able to provide fast transportation. Italian low floor buses in Dehradun will not only fulfil the demand of public transport but also soon substitute the roadways. The rash driving and other problems with roadways buses will also be solved. The government is taking steps quickly in this direction.
